Hanging with the Ladies

Gina is a bohemian earth mama and collector of beautiful, fantastical things. She called on me for some help hanging art in her newly remodeled San Clemente beach house.  Her engineer husband insisted on exact placement of each piece…he is a “one nail-hole” kind of a guy.  I, on the other hand, am an “eyeballer” when hanging art and occasionally become a “several- nail- hole” kind of a gal.  But, for Gina and Mr. Engineer-Man, exact measurements were called for, so I channeled my perfectionist side…..

Out came the butcher paper, cut and measured to the size of the wall space…in this case, a stair well.

After grouping Gina’s  collection of beautiful ladies into an eye pleasing arrangement, I drew a pencil outline of each piece.  Next, I marked where each picture hanger should go by lifting the wire into place behind it.

This paper was then taped onto the wall and nails were pounded into each marked spot…just once…right through the butcher paper.

After ripping the paper away, each piece was left hanging in it’s precise spot.  End result… with exactly 5 nail holes Gina’s ladies were up on the wall, hanging out and looking beautiful.

Best of all, everyone was happy!  Their stairwell was decorated with no fights, no arguments…. and the wall was barely blemished!

Dou YOU have a picture hanging trick?  Please tell…!

I just hung a wall shelf, using your paper method (and my phone – a level app). No mistake! Thanks!
